Human is the name of genus

 

Human (Homo) is not the name of species, but the name of genus.  

Genus Homo (Human) includes several apes and one of them is us, Homo sapiens.  

Then, why do people call Homo sapiens species a "homo genus (human)"?

Convenience.  

More importantly, we Homo sapiens are the only ape species alive in Homo genus now.

There is no confusion since no one else is alive except Homo sapiens in homo genus.
